T’was the week before Christmas and all through the house… was a mess?
We totally understand. You are a busy human with a lot of things going on. This is especially true right before the holidays. There is nothing worse than having to rush to have your home ready to greet the masses. This year, don’t deal with the never-ending struggle that is keeping a home sparkling. Make it a priority the week before to get it spit spot. Here are a few simple things that might just help you achieve the tidy home of your holiday dreams.
Have a checklist.
Just like Santa: make a list and check it twice. Instead of naughty and nice, make a checklist with all the things that need to be cleaned up/ accomplished around your home before the holiday hits. This list makes it easy to make sure you get everything done before your family members arrive and things start getting a bit bonkers. Keep track of it and hold yourself accountable so there will be nothing to do on Christmas Eve but relax.
One room a day.
Don’t try to deep clean the whole house in a day. That is just a whole lot of stress you don’t need this holiday season. Set a goal to conquered one room of your house a day. This way you won’t find yourself scrubbing on Christmas Eve. You can just chill out and enjoy the company of those around you.
Make it a game for the kids.
Keeping a house clean for any extended period of time can be more than challenging when kiddos are involved. So, our tip is to make it a game. Here are a couple ideas:
-
See who can keep their room the cleanest. Whoever wins gets a holiday surprise!
-
Pick a cleaning elf each day. That elf gets to help you clean up and make it spit spot for Jolly Old St. Nick’s arrival.
-
Make it a contest by combining 1 and 2: Whoever is the best elf helper and keeps their room the cleanest gets to open presents first (or something to that effect).
